RELENTLESS PLACOID CHORIORETINITIS
This 34YO male presented with a one-day history of severe vision loss in his left eye. Vision was 20/30 OD and 20/400 OS. Color imaging shows bilateral areas of centrifugal pseudopod-like projections of atrophic scarring. The peripapillary scarring in the right eye seems to radiate outward from the optic nerve. There is a large, mostly… Read More
HIGH MYOPIA WITH STAPHYLOMA
This 72YOM has a lifelong history of severe degenerative myopia. Vision was hand motion bilaterally. Optos color imaging of both eyes shows confluent myopic posterior staphylomas and chorioretinal atrophy extending into each retinal midperiphery. Encircling cobblestone degeneration is seen more anteriorly.
SICKLE CELL RETINOPATHY
This 22YO male presented with 3 days of vision loss in his left eye. There was a past medical history of Hemoglobin SC Disease. He denied any Valsalva maneuvers. He remembered seeing a retinal doctor several months earlier with the diagnosis of proliferative sickle retinopathy. Vision was counting fingers OS. Color imaging shows a large… Read More
WIDEFIELD OCT
This composite widefield OCT image combines multiple pathologies to create a quite sick virtual eye. All the scans were taken with the Canon Xephilio S1.
DUPLICATED OPTIC NERVE
This 61YO diabetic male has been followed yearly for routine retinopathy screenings. On 1/27/22, vision was 20/20 with a normal right fundus. Note that the superior periphery is also normal. On 8/31/22, he returned complaining of a new inferotemporal peripheral scotoma with monocular vertical diplopia in this eye. Vision was 20/20 centrally and 20/20 inferiorly…. Read More
CHOROIDAL NEVUS
This 71YO female presented on 1/27/23 for follow-up for an asymptomatic, less than 1mm thick choroidal nevus measuring 6.3 x 5.5 mm. Optos color imaging shows that the nevus has significantly increased in size (3.0 x 10.5 x 7.5 mm) compared with the prior visit on 11/18/21. The nevus enlarged laterally in all dimensions and… Read More
PENTOSAN POLYSULFATE SODIUM TOXICITY
This 74YO female has been followed by us for a few years with known pentosan polysulfate (PPS, Elmiron) retinal toxicity. She has been taking Elmiron for 25 years. When we initially diagnosed her with these retinal findings, she was hesitant to stop treatment since her interstitial cystitis symptoms were intolerable and dramatically improved with this… Read More
MACULAR PUCKER
This 61YO female presented with 20/40 vision in her right eye from a mildly symptomatic macular pucker. Color imaging shows a moderate macular pucker. Swept source OCT shows a variably adherent hyperreflective pucker, moderate retinal thickening with loss of the inner retinal layer detail, and a small foveal prolapse. En face imaging shows variable inner… Read More
RETINAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATION
This healthy 11YO girl was seen for a routine ophthalmological examination. Vision was 20/20 OU. Fundus photography of her left eye shows unilateral tangles of markedly dilated and tortuous vessels extending from the disc into the inferior macula and fovea. The retinal vessels elsewhere are also somewhat dilated and tortuous. OCT scanning through the inferior… Read More
TOXOCARA
This healthy 13YO boy presented with a history of reduced vision in the left eye for 3 months. At the time of onset, he also reported having a red eye and headache. Vision was 20/20 in his normal right eye and 20/70 in his left eye. Optos color imaging shows a triangular area of chorioretinal… Read More
